The Site Today

In 2021, a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the site identified recognized environmental conditions (RECs) at the site through public records review, interviews with knowledgeable parties, and physical site inspections. RECs include dusts, residues, and processing wastes containing lead, arsenic, manganese, and petroleum.

Throughout the duration of the cleanup, NDEP will keep the community informed of site activities via fact sheets shared directly with residents.

Three Kids Mine Remediation and Reclamation Act

On July 25, 2014, the federal Three Kids Mine Remediation and Reclamation Act was enacted. This legislation provided a framework by which federally-owned land within the 1,165-acre Three Kids Mine site can be conveyed to the City of Henderson Redevelopment Agency for the purposes of site assessment, remediation, and reclamation. This land transfer occurred in February 2024 after successfully meeting all the requirements of the act.

Throughout the years, Lakemoor worked closely with the City of Henderson to obtain federal and state legislation for the project, with previous Mayor Hafen testifying to a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee in Washington, D.C. as well as city management testimony at the state legislature.

The Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) has overseen all environmental testing and analysis and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has participated in all environmental document reviews prior to conveying the federal land. Additionally, NDEP held two open houses in June 2002 and March 2023 to inform residents and get input. The City of Henderson and BLM joined NDEP in those public forums to answer questions and support the process.
